- Jonas Salk was born in October 29, 1914
- In 1947, Salk moved to Pittsburg and became a research professor of bacteriology , and duirectoc of the virus reasearch lab.
- in 1948 Salk shifted his attention to polio
- in 1951 he met Basil O'connor and thier friendship lead to many important projects
- in 1952 he and others developed a safe polio vaccine and tested it on children who had been affected by polio
- in 1953 they continued human trials and improved the vaccine
- in 1955 the vaccine was proven safe and effective
- in 1960 Salk chooses San diego as his preffered site for the salk institute for biological studies
- the first labs were set up in temporary buildings
- Salk died in June 23 1995, due to heart failure
